Reminiscence of Devotion

Reminiscence of Devotion

Reciting memories of love, you are burning;

I writhe and twist in your blaze.

But a warming ember you are

To others in the coldest of days.

To resuscitate life in you

They drew out my tears.

Like a hymn I sang this offering

For this hallowed communion of suffering.

Take this bitter-sweet chalice from me

The memory of devotion made muted

And transmute my oblate state

Into radiant love and life yielded

Feeling Love’s Pulse

Love is a disconcerting headache,
A dazzling visual hallucination
Blurring out reason.

Symptoms of genuine love
Are French anorexie and jalousie,
Désirs d'embrasser;

Are hunches and torments -
Waiting for her cell phone text,
Waiting for a portentous sign:

For a brush of her hand
In a warm muted room,
For her tender gaze.

I can endure any hurt
By any hand, but hers?

Love on the edge of audacity!
